Timeless for Two
This homeowner requested an “awesome” shower and a space that is a modern reflection of their aesthetic.
THE CONCEPT
The vanity uses open shelving and closed cabinets to maximize storage and meet the functional needs of the client. A palette of greys and whites is contrasted with matte black fixtures throughout.
THE PLAN
By framing the large glass panel in black, we delineated two distinct zones in the space - “shower zone” and “bathing zone” and created a simple, yet impactful feature.
THE BEFORE
The original shower was very small and cramped with minimal elbow room and the main reason this ensuite did not work for two.
IT'S OUR NICHE
This custom shower niche and stunning tile provide a timeless and very functional feature in the shower.
IN THE DETAILS
We selected light fixtures to add a hint of sparkle and the mirrors, chandelier and bathtub were chosen because of their softer shapes – with the intention of balancing the masculine and feminine within the space.
THE DESIGN
Our unique approach to the layout, enabled us to create a large walk-in shower with floating bench. Keeping the shower open enabled us to expand the length to the mid-point of the existing window.
OUR NICHE
The location of the window in the shower begs the question about privacy, without compromising the views. We installed a low-voltage film on the windows allowing them to become opaque with the flip of a switch.
THE FINALE
This also led to the tiling of the entire back wall, creating drama and impact. The homeowners brave aesthetic allowed us to use high-contrast black in the space for maximum impact with a modern aesthetic. Incorporating soft greys at the vanity links the ensuite to the palette in the existing home.
Overall, we achieved the request for an awesome shower and then some.
This space balances a timeless aesthetic with modern trends that suit the
homeowner's home and will stand the test of time.
